  • Hometown: Stratford-upon-Avon, England
  • Although his birthdate was unknown, he was
  • Baptized on April 26th, 1564
  • Attended a free Grammar School in Stratford
  • There is some speculation that Shakespeare may have been a schoolmaster

  • At 18 Years old, he married Anne Hathaway, who was 8 years
  • Older than him
  • Not exactly known when he started writing, but most historians
  • Speculate that his plays appeared in London in the late 1590's

  • In 1599, many different theater companies contributed to
  • Build the globe theater along the River Thames
  • By 1598, his plays became a main selling point, therefore
  • He was the headliner for many theaters for his famousness

  • Shakespeare identified himself as a Roman Catholic
  • He lived and was not affected by the bubonic plague
  • ("The Black Death")
  • Was one of seven children

LEGACY

  • William Shakespeare made expansions to tragedies and to the English
  • Language itself.
  • He influenced novelists such as Charles Dickens and Herman Melville
