CATAWBA TRIBE

  • Indian Tribe
  • Lived along the rivers in the Piedmont
  • Called themselves the "River People"
  • Excellent Potters

YEMESSEE TRIBE

  • Originally from Spanish Florida
  • Moved to SC near Savannah River to get away from spanish gov.
  • Lived near the beach in wigwams covered in Palmetto fronds
  • Indian tribe

CHEROKEE TRIBE

  • Indian tribe
  • Lived in the foothills and mountains
  • Fished by poisoning the water with walnut bark
  • White leaders lead during peaceful times
  • Red leaders lead during times of war

BARBADOS

  • Barbados is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles.
  • Its has all white sand beaches
  • Has pure drinking water

CHARLES TOWN

  • In South Carolina
  • Englands 1st permanent settlement
  • Now is named Charleston

NAVAL STORES

  • Stuff used in history to seal the spaces between the planks
  • Used by the British

INDIGO

  • A dye made by an Indigo flower
  • Eliza Lucas Pinkney brought the idea of indigo to S.C.
  • Became a 2nd cash crop with rice
  • British offered a Subsidy for growing it
  • It was a blueish-purple dye color

HEADRIGHT METHOD

  • Encouraged people to pay for servants to come to U.S.A
  • Landowners then began buying African slaves for even cheaper labor

WIGWAM

  • Indian houses
  • Indians built wigwams out of different things depending on the tribe

FUR TRADE

  • The French traded fur with the native americans
