  • A=4: On average meets and exceeds standards
  • B=3: Meets each standard

Reading in Our Class

  • Why is it important?

Our Goal

  • 500,000 words = 2,000 a day = 9-10 pages of a novel
  • We are going places, reading is the ticket
  • First student to make it around the world (25,000 miles)...

Reading Logs

  • 1 piece of candy = 40 pages (4 days of reading)
  • A total of 50 pieces = half way!
  • A total of 100 pieces = all the way there = Plate Lunch!
  • 9 pages a day = SUCCESS! 

Reading Expectations

  • First 20 minutes of class
  • On Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays
  • Silent and seated
  • Fill out reading log EVERY time you read - due at end of quarter

Picking your book

  • You want that sweet spot in your reading
  • Look at the cover and read back of book
  • Find a page, and read. 5 or more words you don't know?
  • Repeat. 

Reading Ediquette

  • Begin reading right away
  • Read silently and seated
  • Eyes on book
  • Respect the books
