ELA 8 Grades

There are many standards.

Like...

• Use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word.

Each standard has a test.

We call these BENCHMARK tests.

BENCHMARKS are 80% of the class grade.

Students can retake benchmarks three times.

Scoring below 80%, a student MUST retake a test.

Major writing projects are benchmarks, too.

Everything else is 20%.

GOALS

• Everyone earns an "A" or "B"
• "A" or "B" means the student has mastered most or all of the standards.
