Escape Attempts
Two prisoners, Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe, attempted to escape by filing their ways through the flat iron bars of a prison window and swimming to the shore of the San Francisco Bay during a severe thunderstorm. They were never found again and were presumed dead.

Actual Escapes
In June if 1962, three men named Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris, attempted to escape Alcatraz by swimming to the shore of the San Francisco Bay. They were never found again and were presumed dead. Some theories state that they made it out alive, but we cannot be sure without proper evidence.
