ALLAH

  • Pronounciation: (a-la)
  • Define: The arabic word for god, worshiped by Arabians
  • Sentence: Abraham and his son built a temple to worship Allah.

CALIF

  • Pronounciation: (kay-lihf)
  • Define: A title meaning "successor."
  • Sentence: In the year 632, Abu Bakr was the first calif.

KA'ABA

  • Pronounciation: (Ka-bah)
  • Define: The temple built to worship Allah.
  • Sentence: Yesterday we went to the Ka'aba to worship.

MECCA

  • Pronounciation: (Meh-kah)
  • Define: A city in the Hejaz capital of the Makkah Province.
  • Sentence: My friend visited Mecca yesterday with his family.

RUB AL-KHALI

  • Pronounciation not required
  • Define: An enormous desert, meaning "the empty quarter"
  • Sentence: The rub al-khali covers 250,000 sq. Miles

SUNNI

  • Pronounciation: (soon-he)
  • Define: Those who accepted the rule of elected caliphs.
  • Sentence: Sunni means the followers of Sunnah.

SHI'A

  • Pronounciation: (she-ah)
  • Define: People that thought the caliph should be a relative of the prophet.
  • Sentence: The shi'a group's members were known as Shiites.

QUR'AN

  • Pronounciation: (cure-on)
  • Define: The revelations that formed a scripture worshiped by Islams.
  • Sentence: The qur'an is full of Muhammad's teachings.

SUNNAH

  • Pronounciation: (soon-uh)
  • Define: Muhammad's words, teachings, or deeds.
  • Sentence: The Islams read about the Sunnah yesterday.

HIJRAH

  • Pronounciqtion: (he-raw)
  • Define: The migration to Yathrib by Muslims
  • Sentence: The journey to Yathrib was over 200 miles north.
