WHAT IS THE MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION????

  • a beautiful and inspirational organization that changes lives
  • It grants a wish to a child diagnosed with s life threatening medical condition
  • A wish is granted on an average of every 38 minutes. THATS INCREDIBLE!!!!!
  • The wish can be anything

HOW IT ALL STARTED

  • It all began in the spring of 1980
  • A 7 year old boy named Chris Greicius was diagnosed with leukemia
  • He always wanted to be a police officer and "fight bad guys"
  • Tommy Austin, a family friend happened to be a police officer
  • He pulled a few strings and got Chris to come down to the station for a day so he could be an honorary police officer

CHRIS GREICIUS CHANGES THE WORLD

  • Chris died shortly after that special day
  • He was given the funeral ceremony of a fellow fallen officer
  • Word spread about chris' story and people wanted more
  • Officer Frank Shankwitz gathered with felloe officers, firends and family
  • The first donation was 15$ given to Frank by a grocery store owner

CHARITY + JUSTICE

  • One act of charity turned into a international organization in 30 years
  • The foundation fights for a diagnosed child to be happy
  • We want their dreams to come true
  • Short term goal-Wishes make kids feel better-and hopefully get better
  • Long term goal- to be apart of the cure for cancer-to give hope to those who have none

  • Respect for life
  • Stewardship

PACEM IN TERRIS

  • Pope john xxiii wrote it to address the topic of peace
  • The Make A Wish Foundation is a huge benefactor of peace and happiness in the world
  • make A Wish works toward the greater Common Good-which is the health of children
  • Make a Wish also upholds the right to human life which this encyclical stresses
  • The world has a responsibility to support cancer patients by any means

SAM'S WISH

  • sam loved to play baseball
  • He was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at age 11
  • The make a wish foundation/friends/fam made him his own baseball field
  • They made it in his backyard
  • The baseball field is now open for the whole community

BEN'S WISH

  • Diagnosed with Leukemia at 9
  • Wished to make his own video game starring him fighting cancer cells
  • Make a wish foundation got together with a professional game designer
  • They released the game in 2004
  • It is now available to kids all over in hospitals so they can virtually destroy their disease
