FORT SUMTER

  • Fort Sumter was a federal fort in South Carolina.
  • With in two days of the souths rebellion fort Sumter fell.
  • Lincoln sent 75,000 militiamen to stop the souths rebellion.
  • After the troops were sent each state had to choose a side

BULL RUN

  • Confederate troops drove the union army back it cause bull run.
  • Bull run was not going to be a easy battle for the union
  • In the spring of 1862 McClellan led 100,000 troops to the battle of bull run.

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

  • Antietam took place on September 17, 1862.
  • It halted lee's northward march.
  • This was the bloodiest one day battle of the civil war.

BATTLE OF SHILOH

  • During this battle the union gained control of the Mississippi River.
  • Each side lost and gained land.

Siege of Vicksburgh

  • Six week blockade of Vicksburg that starved the city.
  • They repeatedly shelled the city.

Emancipation proclamation

  • Freed slaves from the plantation owners.
  • Now slaves had to learn how to live life.
  • Some slaves moved to the north to try to find a place to live and a job.

Gettysburg

  • Lasted 2 weeks.
  • The union won the battle of Gettysburg
  • After the battle cemetery was made there for the soldiers that died.
