PRESENTATION OUTLINE

OLECRANON BURTISUS

Olecranon burtisus is the swelling and inflammation of the elbow.

HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

MILD BUT REPEATED INJURY TO THE ELBOW

There are also several other causes such as; "One- off injury" which is just a blow to the back of the elbow which causes inflammation.

Arthritis is another cause of this injury. The bursa might have a cut on the skin over the bursa causing it to be infected which causes it to lead to this injury.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

IF THE BACK OF THE ELBOW IS TENDER AND IS VERY SWOLLEN

This injury can really only heal on its own, but the RICE method is a good treatment for it. You can also drain the fluid from the elbow by using a syringe or needle.

HEALING TIME

  • It can take anywhere from
  • 2-3 weeks for the swelling
  • of the bursa to go down,
  • depending on the severity
  • and how well/often its treated.
