INFECTIOUS/NONINFECTIOUS DISEASES

BY: CHRISTIAN PIMENTEL VAZQUEZ

NONINFECTIOUUS

  • Not caused by Pathogens
  • Cannot be passed from person to person
  • Caused by malfunctions that are inherited by enviormental factors

Diabetes

Disease that results in the glucose (Sugar) level of the blood being higher than normal. The result of the body (pancreas) not making or using insulin properly. Symptoms include: Frequent urination, hungry often but loses weight, and being thirsty. With time, a person may have circulation problems, loss of vision, damage to kidneys,or nerve damage. You can't cure diabetes, but you can control it (with pills or by injecting insulin in ti your body, as seen in the background)

Parkinson's Disease

We do not know what's causes this disease. Disease of the nervous system where nerve cells in the brain stop functioning properly, affecting the muscular system. The major symptoms are tremors (severe shaking) and disabilities involving movement. No cure at this time.

Skin Cancer

Cancer cells in the outer layer of the skin. Variety of ways it can start such as: damaging ultraviolet rays (UV) from the sun or tanning beds. Some skin cancers are hereditary. Waxy bumps, brown or flesh in color or flat scaly growth. Some start as a sore that may not heal. With early detection, they can be removed by freezing or surgery.

Asthma

Disease that affects the lungs and airways. Muscles of the bronchial tubes tighten up. Excess mucus is produced. Attacks of wheezing/difficulty breathing.

Infectious

Caused by pathogens.
Such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, or protist. The immune system is responsible for distinguishing between the different kind of pathogens and reaction to each according to its life. Viruses can only reproduce if in a living cell.

Cold

Viral infection in the respiratory system. Viruses can only reproduce if in a living cell. Symptoms -- cough, stuffy runny nose, headache. No cure, can only treat symptoms. Viruses cannot be treated with an antibiotic.

Flu (Influenza)

Highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory system. Symptoms - fever, muscle aches, cough more severe than a cold. Can last longer than a cold.

Athlete's

Fungal infection of the skin of the feet. Get from public environments (shower stalls, shoes, hot tubs). Grows in warm, moist environments such as between the toes. Symptoms - red, itching, flaky skin. Unpleasant smell.

AIDS

Caused by the HIV virus. The virus attacks the cells of the immune system (white blood cells) making the body unable to fight off pathogens. That may attack the body. May go years without symptoms. There is no cure (new research may change this). Have to come in contact with blood of a person infected in order to get AIDS/virus.

Strep Throat

Contagious disease caused by a bacterial infection. Symptoms include fever, pain, redness, and swelling of the throat and tonsils. May produce mild or severe symptoms.
Can cause rheumatic fever which is an infection of the joints and heart causing permanent damage to the valves.
