  • Jobs (in factories mostly)
  • Innovations (making more jobs)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Disease was everywhere.
  • Factory workers risked their lives everyday.
  • People lost limbs and were mangled by machines.
  • Factories were filthy.

CORPORATE LEADERS:

  • J.P. Morgan’s banking house
  • John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company
  • Andrew Carnegie’s Carnegie Steel
  • Cornelius Vanderbilt’s New York Central Railroad System

  • 80% lived in rural communities
  • Only 20% lived in urban centers

ROLE OF WOMEN:

  • Women began to enter the work force
  • Worked in factories
  • Upperclass women were school teachers or stayed at home
