FLOODS CAN HAPPEN WHEN...

• Lots of water from snow or rain overflow a river
• Ice blocks a river and it overflows
• Too much water builds up behind a dam and the dam busts

HURRICANES AND STORMS

• Hurricanes and storms make waves or wash water onto shore
• Storms and floods are not a good combo
• I was wondering why the water was getting bigger then it hit me!

FLOODS

• The Mississippi river Floods often
• People close to the Mississippi river put up levees
• Flat land on either side is flood plain
• Floods normally happen when dams overflow
