PRESENTATION OUTLINE
FERAL MEANS THAT THE CAT IS WILD, NOT DOMESTICATED.
Feral cats usually live in colonies of 5-20 cats. Sickness and disease spread quickly among these colonies. That is how TNR began. TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, Release. When these cats are trapped, they are neutered and given their shots. They also cut their ear tip.
The tipped ear on a feral cat is a universal sign. If you see a cat with it's ear tipped, it means that the cat is feral, but it is fixed with all of its shots.
Until recently, when a feral cat was caught, even with a tipped ear, they would be euthanized. The cats that have tipped ears are not at risk for disease and do not put anyone at risk, including other cats. They also cannot reproduce. People ,including myself, did not think this was right and decided to do something about it.
On August 20, 2013, there was a council meeting to decide if the proposal to make It illegal to trap and kill the cats with tipped ears. I went to this meeting along with my aunt and a few of the feral cats. The entire city council voted in favor for the proposal.
Since the council meeting, a lot of awesome things have happened. The FCC (Feral Cat Coalition) is opening their own vet clinic. The colony that my aunt and I take care of are now all neutered, tipped and vaccinated.
