  • Political Experience: Americas greatest diplomat
  • Occupation(before presidency): Had a law office. Became a minister. U.S. senater

ELECTION

  • Elected: February 9, 1825
  • When in office: March 4, 1825-March 4, 1829
  • Political Party: Democratic
  • Who Defeated: Andrew Jackson

EVENTS

  • The "Trail of Tears" is an event that occured.
  • The Cherokee nation were forced to give up their land east of the Mississippi River
  • They also had to move to an area in what is now Oklahoma
  • The name came from the Indians

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • In 1828, he passed the so called "Tariff of Abominations"
  • This protected domestic manufacturing in Northern U.S.
  • It was strongly opposed in the south because of what it did to Southern economy

INTERESTING FACTS

  • He was the only president of the first 5 that wasn't a slave holder
  • He was the first president that lived in the White House, he moved in before it was finished
