EVA BRAUN

Born on February 6th, 1912, Eva Braun was the companion of Adolf Hitler, and for less than 40 hours his wife, until they committed suicide together.

BACKGROUND ON HITLER:

  • Became chancellor of Germany in 1933
  • Met Eva through his personal photographer, Mr. Hoffmann
  • Married Eva in 1945
  • Was determined to make Germany a world power after their defeat in WWI

EVA

  • She was a very lively and athletic girl
  • Although she was intelligent, she was not interested in schoolwork
  • Eva left her catholic boarding school at age 17 and started her profession
  • In the evenings, Eva played games and read with her family
  • Her teachers thought she was a silly girl

FAMILY

  • Fritz was her father
  • Franziska, also called Fanny, was her mother
  • Eva had two sisters, the oldest named Ilse and youngest named Gretl
  • Her parents were very ashamed with Eva's connection with Hitler
  • Her father had hoped for a boy

FAST FACTS:

  • Eva was 23 years younger than Hitler
  • Eva kept her affair with Hitler a secret from her parents until late in her life
  • Hitler kept his affair with Eva a secret too
  • Eva would have liked to be an actress, filmstar, or even a champion skater
  • Eva tried to commit suicide more than once to earn attention from Hitler

IMPACT

  • Eva did not make a huge impact, although many still know her name
  • Fritz was very strict, leaving Eva comfortable with Hitler and his rigid life
  • Eva's impact was her loyalty to Hitler, and he truly trusted her

Jade's Reflection:

I was interested in researching Eva Braun because I wanted to learn more about what kind of woman would want to be Hitler's love. I wonder how she could be attracted to such an evil man. I know that if I learn more about Eva, I will learn much more about the background of WWII and Hitler.
