PRESENTATION OUTLINE
CONSUMERTRACK = OPPORTUNITY
Six months ago I had just graduated USC with dual masters in Organizational Behavior and Economics. I had been working for an HR consulting company and was handling HR Operations for 5,000 employees.
The work environment was awful. I felt like a slave. On my hour commute to the office everyday I was in tears because I just hated my job. I had left my family, my friends, and my cozy job at Google to switch careers so that I could do something meaningful – create happy work environments for people. But after everything I had sacrificed and the student debt I had taken on, I wasn’t creating happy work environments in fact, my company was taking advantage of employees and the 2 other HR people I worked with prided themselves whenever they got a chance to screw over the very employees we served. It was my worst nightmare.
I had to take action. I had to make my own light at the end of the tunnel. I started applying for jobs. I gave up my dream to stay and work in Manhattan Beach. Because... what is the statistical probability that I would find my dream job in the zip code that I wanted? I opened my search and landed a job in SF. Yes! I excitedly called my family to share the news. I was leaving the soul sucking company. The same day I got the verbal job offer, something else happened that would change everything.
An hour after hanging up the phone, in which I gladly accepted the position in SF, I checked my email and had a message in my Linkedin account, from the president of a company, on the border of Manhattan Beach, he had a position in HR available. “What? Really? This is too much” I thought. I replied, “Thanks but I am in final rounds with another company.” But ConsumerTrack was ready to meet me the very next day so I left work early to meet with Jeff and Brett. The interviews were refreshing and within a few days I had to call to inform my family that I would not be moving back to the Bay Area. I was staying in Manhattan Beach to be the People & Culture Manager @ConsumerTrack.
Over the past 6 months I have been given the opportunity to do some really cool things. I get to use all 3 of my degrees (undergrad in Business Communications) for the projects I work on – Training & Development, Branding & PR, Team Building & Events, Rewards & Recognition, Organizational Effectiveness and Corporate Communications – that help to create a happy, healthy and productive work environment.
I am living my passion and loving my career. One thing that I have learned along my journey is that the meaning of life is connection and relationships. I have had amazing opportunities to build connections and relationships @ConsumerTrack with people who are working towards #greatness. Here are some of the highlights from over the last 6 months…
I revamped and now manage the Buddy Program. I opened up the list of "buddy ready” people. I developed the Buddy Certification Training Program and have certified 17 buddies.
I was also given the opportunity to revamp Orientation Training. Within the second week of working at ConsumerTrack, I trained my first employee and have since trained and on-boarded 15 new employees (out of the 34 brought on in 2014).
