  • Responsible for almost half of the 48 contiguous states today.

ANNEXATION OF TEXAS

  • Part of one of the greatest territorial expansions of all time.
  • The idea of annexation was popular in the south but not in the north.
  • Treaty to annex Texas was submitted on April 22, 1844
  • The fear was that annexation of Texas would bring war with Mexico.
  • October 2, 1835-April 21, 1836

THE ALAMO

  • Aka the Mexican/ American war
  • February 23, 1836
  • 13- day long battle
  • 13,000 dead for America
  • 25,000 dead for Mexico
