What is Fresh Grade?

  • Online Digital Student Portfolio
  • Tracks progress
  • Communication with teachers, students and parents
Fresh Grade is an online assessment tool that allows content (Videos, audio, notes, etc.) To be extended to families about their child's progress.
Teachers have also used it as a means to set goals with their students and upload their best work.

Digital portfolios

  • captures assessment tasks using photos, videos &recordings
  • Assess mastery of outcomes
log into Freshgrade.com
Show the dashboard when first logged in.
Show a students portfolio as an example of what has been uploaded.
Show how to set up an assessment task. I add in the outcome that I am assessing so and decide how this will be assessed. Photos, videos or audio recordings can be uploaded to easily show if the outcome id being achieved..
The advantage is that it has app on both the phone and iPad.

Communication

  • First Grade enables students assessments with other teachers
  • Parents have access to their own app that shows their child's progress.
  • Students can access and comment on their own learning.
Experience is a wonderful teacher. If I were to do this again, I would introduce this to parents first but they were a little surprised when they got the email. There has been many positive comments about using Fresh Grade especially from parents who travel frequently. Parents can comment, so there is an aspect of having to train parents to understand Formative Assessment, rather than grades.
