Background Information
The Indian Removal Act was passed by Andrew Jackson demanding military and political action on removing Native Americans from the southern states of America in 1829. This act was suppose to be voluntary but it led to the Trail of Tears because of the Indians were not willingly to leave their homeland.
First justification
President Andrew Jackson consoled himself with the thought and ideal that the Native Americans could preserve their cultures and ways of life in another area.
Second Justification
Jackson also believed that the Indians were uncivilized and thought that they would become a problem as more white settlers moved westward.
Third Justification
According to the American Pageant textbook, Jackson felt it was his obligation to rescue "this much injured race"
How did European Americans change the environment for Native Americans?
The European Americans sent the Indians to terrain they had no knowledge about. The natives went from farming lands to plains, causing a somewhat culture shock.
