Facts about New Jersey

  • New Jersey was founded in 1664 by Lord Berkeley & Sir George Carteret
  • New Jersey was one of the middle Colonies
  • From 1664 to 1702 the colony was divided into East and West Jersey, which later became one royal colony
  • Dec. 18th, 1787- it became the 3rd U.S state of the 13 original colonies
  • Also referred to as the Garden State

How did new jersey make money?

  • Exported livestock and crops
  • Built stuff such as boats
  • Mined for many jewels and metals such as Iron
  • Traded many goods

What did they eat in New Jersey?

  • Wheat
  • Rice
  • Oats
  • Rye
  • Corn
  • Squash
  • Beans
  • Meats

Natural Resources

  • Agricultural land, forests (timber), iron ore, coal and furs
  • Grew so much wheat that it was referred as a "Breadbasket"

Religion- there was not a specific religion New Jersey was ruled by thus making New Jersey free in religious beliefs.

Climate and Landscapes

  • Weather is around 60 degrees
  • Precipitation is around 20-30%
  • Wind is around 7 mph
  • Many hills
  • Rivers and lakes
  • Lush Greenery- referred to as the Garden State.
