1.
NATURAL DIASTERS: ROCKFALLS AND HEAT WAVES
WRITTEN AND MADE BY: ALI AK
2.
WHAT ARE ROCKFALLS?
Rockfalls are movements of rock by weathering, bedrock fractures, etc
Rock falls are under the geophysical disaster type
Can move in different ways that include: Free fall and Movement near the slope surface
Many Rock Falls occur in Yosemite National Park
Rock Falls can also be triggered by Earthquakes

3.
WHAT DO ROCKFALLS LOOK LIKE?
Rockfalls look like movement of rock by water
Looks like broken rocks being taken down a cliff at high speeds

4.
WHERE AND WHEN DO THEY OCCUR?
Occur on Cliffs
Occur when there are bedrock fractures
.... Could also occur through weathering
It could also be caused by freeze thaw
Another way is tree roots expanding too much
5.
EXAMPLES OF ROCKFALLS
The Yosemite Rock Fall of July 10, 1996
80,000 tons of rock fell
The rock was coming down at 260 mph
This Rockfall Caused alot of Physical Damage
6.
EXAMPLES OF ROCKFALLS
2013 was a pretty good year for Yosemite
Rock Falls weren't as steong as usual
The two most powerful Earthquakes occurred on May 11 and October 5
950 tons of rock fell in the first rockfall and 2200 in the other
7.
HUMAN AFFECTS
Humans affect the environment and usually in a bad way
People make rock walls for roads and this makes a cliff like structure
When It rains weathering will cause the Rockfall to happen

11.
WHAT IS A HEAT WAVE ?
Extreme Heat for a long time
It is a Meteorological Disaster
Often comes with humidity
Causes many symptoms
Is linked with other Disasters
12.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
Long periods of Time of hot weather
Many people sufering because of the heat
A boiling pot of water with extrmely severe weather conditions
13.
WHERE AND WHEN DOES IT OCCUR?
Occur in Oceanic Climates
High Pressure
Less clouds more sunlight
14.
HEAT WAVE GRAPH: NUMBER OF HYPERTHERMIA DEATHS
15.
HEAT WAVE DIAGRAM
16.
EXAMPLES OF HEAT WAVES
October 1924( Marble Bar)
Lasted for 160
Wasn't the hottest weather but lasted for a long period of time
17.
EXAMPLES OF HEAT WAVES
June 1958, London The Great Stink
Extreme temperatures
Cholera was spreading at the time
Flushing toilets were invented casuing an increase in waste
It rained and a new sewage system was made
18.
HUMAN AFFECTS
Burning fuels
Cutting down trees
Increase in temperature
Increase in green house gases

19.
SYMPTOMS OF HEAT WAVES
Hyperthermia
Heat Rash
Heat Cramp
Other small symptoms

20.
SAFETY
Stop activities or do them at different times
Wear Summer Clothes
Make sure to Drink a lot of fluids
Keep your AC on

CONCLUSION
Both of these disasters can be harardous
Both have an increased chance of haplening because of humans
They are both from different groups
Both are dangerous and should be avoided
Humans should stop polluting the environment
