  • Heroin in its purest form is a white powder
  • Heroin is most often rose gray, brown, or black
  • It can be packaged in many different ways

WHAT IS HEROIN

  • Heroin is a highly addictive, illegal drug
  • It is used by millions of addicts around the world
  • It is made from the resin of poppy plants

HOW IS HEROIN TAKEN

  • Heroin is most often injected into a vein or muscle
  • It can be smoked in a pipe
  • Its smoke can be inhaled through a straw
  • This process is known as "chasing the dragon"
  • As a powder form, it can be snorted

EFFECTS

  • Some long-term effects are bad teeth and itching
  • Inflammation of the gums, constipation, and depression
  • Cold sweats, weakening of the immune system, and coma
  • Respiratory illness, muscular weakness, and loss of memory

DANGERS

  • Death
  • Changes of the physical structure or physiology of the brain
  • Withdrawal may occur a few hours after taking heroin
  • Vomiting, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, and cold flashes
