IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS OF GALILEO

• Born February 15,1564 in Pisa
• Learned that the Earth wasn't the center of our solar system
• Enrolled in University of Pisa and went for a medical degree
• Instead he got a degree in mathematics
• Published books including a Discourse on Floating Bodies in 1612

HIS BELIEFS, FEELINGS,AND IDEAS

• Proved that the sun was the center of our solar system
• He believed that the most important study was the study of the universe
• He made fundamental contributions to the sciences of motion
• Also made contributions to astronomy and the scientific method
• When on trial in 1633 and was convicted of heresy

• On April 12 the heresy was that he believed that the Earth
• Revolved all around the sun which made everybody mad at him
• He then was ordered to say sorry and said he was but he wasn't
• He was placed under life house arrest which eventually killed him
• It took people over 300 years to learn he was right and to clear his name
