PRESENTATION OUTLINE
THE ADVENTURES OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR
A long time ago, in a land far away, lived a king named Nebuchadnezzar the Second. He was very happy because his army had just fought against the Assyrians. They won a lot of land in the area called Mesopotamia. The Assyrian army was getting smaller quickly and did not have very much strength.
Nebuchadnezzar captured the Assyrians and brought them to Babylonia.
Nebuchadnezzar said to his army, "Now, thanks to you, this land is mine and we will make it like the Babylonian empire once did." And of course he said this in the Akkadian language because that was language they spoke.
Nebuchadnezzar went to a temple (at that time, temples were called ziggurats) and he said to his people,"Let us worship our many gods. Our tallest ziggurat, many stories tall, shall be called House of the Platform of Heaven and Earth."
After that, Nebuchadnezzar said to his people, "Our empire is strong, however, we shall build thick walls surrounding our cities to protect us from attacks."
In their free time, the Neo- Babylonians decorated Nebuchadnezzar's palace with beautiful lush gardens. Nebuchadnezzar challenged his people to make new inventions. The people worked hard day and night...
"Wow, the invention of the sundial is the best ever!" said Nebuchadnezzar. This is what gives us the 60-minute hour and 7-day week that we use today.
Something Nebuchadnezzar learned from the people he took over was to always keep the capital city safe. To do this, he sent out watch soldiers to guard and protect his capital city.
The Neo-Babylonians were good mathematicians and astronomers.
75 years later...
Nebuchadnezzar was sad because he knew that the empire at its height had already past. He sensed trouble coming from the east. Nebuchadnezzar and his people were swept out of Mesopotamia by The Persians. The Neo-Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar were lost forever.
