History of Labs

  • They were bred in Newfoundland
  • They were referred to as the St. Johns water dog
  • The breed started in the 1700's
  • They joined the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1917
  • The breed was bred for hunting and swimming

A labrador is a good swimmer because of their webbed feet, and are good hunters because they learn how to retrieve easily

What they look like

  • They typically weigh 80 pounds
  • They're height is usually 22-24 inches
  • There are three main colors; black, yellow and chocolate
  • with chocolate being the rarest and black being most common
  • Eye colors are usually browns and hazel
