PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DRINKING&DRIVING

MAGGIE BRUTSCHE

THE CONSEQUENCES

  • Physical: 1 person is injured in a drunk driving car crash every 2 minutes
  • Legal: 1/3 of drunk driving arrests or convictions are repeat offenders
  • Financial: drunk driving costs the U.S. $199 billion per year

THE EFFECTS

  • Short term: You can lose your license for DUI
  • Long term effects: death and living with the self consequences of possibly killing someone

Factors of Influence
I think kids drink to fit in. They have peer pressure all around them and they think that if they don't drink, they're not cool. I also think family is a big influence. If my parent were to tell me not to drink and give me a big lecture on it, I wouldn't. Now for the obvious, the alcohol is a big influence in itself. Once you drink you're all loopy and not as smart. You think you're okay to drive, but you're not.

My Summary
Drinking and driving is very dangerous. It is the cause of over 50,000 deaths and still happens even though we know the dangers. Drunk driving can cause death, severe injury, and huge financial costs. People drink and drive because they are under influence of alcohol so their minds aren't working properly. The media also portrays drinking as safe and okay, but it's not. So kids, don't drink, and especially don't drink and drive.
