The Seven Brothers

There were seven brothers that lived in a small village and none of them liked their parents very much because they
were always together
So one day they
created a plan to separate their parents
one of the brothers said that they should make them angry with each other,
but the others had a better plan
They thought they should pull their parents apart
The next day one brother called Waiti tried
Straining as hard as he could he couldn't do it, so Waita tried, his face was red
but he just couldn't do it
Tupu-a-nuku stood up and said
" I'll do it "
He pushed as hard as he could but nothing happened so he pushed even harder
Eventually he sat down
and gave up trying
Three hours later there was only Matariki left, the smallest of them all stood up and tried.
He pushed and pushed and his brothers jaws dropped
Yes Matariki did it, he managed to push
his parents apart!
The brothers all cheered and congratulated him on
pulling their parents apart and they went
off to the village to celebrate
The village chief was so impressed with the seven brothers that he decided the seven brightest stars in the sky should be named after them
