ANTITHESIS

WHAT IS ANTITHESIS?

• When there are two opposite words or ideas in a sentence.
• This usually creates a contrast and more of a formal tone.
• When the opposites are phrases they are almost always separated with a comma

EXAMPLES

• Ex. Rude words bring out sadness, but kind words inspire joy.
• Ex. In peace you are for war, and in war you long for peace.
• Ex. No men will listen, but every man will talk.
