PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PLATO'S JUST PERFECTION

HOW CAN IT BE ACHEIVED?

TRIPARTITE THEORY

  • There a 3 different aspects of the soul
  • Everyone's soul is majorly controlled by one of these aspects
  • In the republic the Philosopher King has a rational soul
  • The soldiers of this city-state have a spirited soul
  • Lastly the merchants and laborers have an appetitive soul

PATH TO PERFECTION

  • In order to create this just society plato laid out guidelines
  • Each social class had there own guidelines
  • The guidelines were there to help the citizens unlock their true potential
  • If everyone is living to their potential, a perfect society can be formed

PERFECTION REACHED

  • For the philosopher king to reach perfection he must acheive truth & wisdom
  • Soldiers must acheive self preservation and courage
  • Merchants and laborers must acheive instincts and temperance

MY THOUGHTS

  • Plato's theory seems to be fool proof but in actuality is flawed
  • The problem is that people by nature want to be free
  • Humans want to forge their own paths not be controlled
  • His society cant be perfect because no one wants their life planned
