Purpose

  • Similar to the iRobot/Roomba Vacuum.
  • Entertainment.
  • Doesn't really have a big purpose.
  • Helps you learn how robots work when assembling.
  • Turn around when it bumps into objects.

how it works

  • Motor powers the axles to rotate.
  • Moving axles cause the sphere to spin.
  • Weight causes continuous spinning motion.
  • Pushes against the robot forcing it into motion.

diagram

  • 1 top cover
  • 1 large axle (with single cog)
  • 1 metal weight
  • 1 battery case cover
  • 1 motor housing (with switch and wires)

DIAGRAM (CONTINUED)

  • 1 motor housing cover
  • 1 base
  • 1 half sphere (with switch hole)
  • 1 half sphere (without hole)
  • 1 soft plastic ring

DIAGRAM (CONTINUED)

  • 1 small axle (with two cogs)
  • shorts screws
  • 2 terminal caps
  • 1 long screw (for securing the connection tabs)
  • 1 motor (with wires and worm gear attached)

Problems

  • 2 wires broke.
  • Terminal cap would not fit into shorter connection slot.
  • 1 battery wire & 1 motor wire became disconnected..
  • Instructions were misleading.
  • When sphere was tightened, motor no longer worked.

Changes

  • Used soldering gun to reconnect wires.
  • Removed part of the wire covering.
  • Used pliers to fit terminal cap.

science concepts used

  • Wheel and axle.
  • Uses electricity from battery.
  • Electric motor

Conclusion

  • Waste of money.
  • Poorly made.
  • Uses electricity and wheel and axles.
  • Bumps into objects and then turns another direction.
  • Fun to watch.
