US had military alliances with many countries

NEW WORLD ORDER

Bush and Gorbachev tried to define this as the major part of the post-Cold War era
Many had thought that the war in Iraq was fought to prevent terrorism since no weapons of mass destruction were used

MULTIPOLAR WORLD

Rising nations such as China, India, Brazil, and Russia are challenging the US for world dominance
If these countries can avoid war, then the coming decades can be peaceful and nonviolent
