IT IS A FOOLISHLY ANNOYING PERSON....

1. COMPLETE YOUR PROFILE

A BIT OF A NO-BRAINER HERE (Consistency across networks)

2. KNOW THE TWITTER LANGUAGE

3. 140 CHARACTERS ARE THERE FOR A REASON

4. STARTING A TWEET WITH A USERNAME

  • Fine when replying to someone
  • Limits on the scope of who sees it
  • Only people who follow both will see it
  • Instead of a reply, make it a mention

5. AUTOMATIC DIRECT MESSAGES

ITS NOT AS FRIENDLY AS YOU THINK. IN FACT IT'S THE OPPOSITE.

6. PLEASE USE #'S..........CORRECTLY

  • Get your tweets seen by the right people
  • Limit Hashtags to one or two per tweet
  • Be campaign specific e.g. KitKat #HaveAbreak
  • Engage with popular subjects e.g. #OMiG
  • DO NOT OVERUSE HASHTAGS IN A TWEET

7. @ IS THERE FOR A REASON

  • Involve industry leaders by mentioning them
  • Engage with your own followers/customers
  • Respond to those who engage with you, and
  • Retweet those who tweet about you.
  • Learn from your followers in order to influence them

8. DO NOT BE BORING

WE DON'T NEED TO HEAR ABOUT EVERY MEAL YOU EAT

9. THINK ABOUT YOUR TWEET COPY

TWEETS ARE HEADLINES, WRITE 5 TIMES AND USE THE BEST ONE

EASY TO READ, STAND OUT AGAINST WORDS, AND WE JUST LIKE FACTS

12. USE IMAGES WHEN APPROPRIATE

13. BRANDS MUST ENGAGE

  • Contests can increase followers by 100's or 1000's
  • Ask for retweets in appropriate circumstances
  • No personal opinions. A business page is just that
  • Know what customers talk about & get involved
  • Never tweet "Buy this product" or anything similar

14. ARE YOU A SOCIAL MEDIA ZOMBIE?

BE MORE THAN JUST A SHELL. BE ACTIVE.

  • Be genuine, real and have fun.
