PERSONAL

LET'S MAKE THIS
What is meant by hire? Hire is the idea that a person chooses something to fulfill a need. Students come to school daily and educators assume they come having hired school to fulfill two basic needs: to be successful and to have fun.

Rightly teachers come to places of learning desiring students to engage in work and produce high quality products.

What if educators are making the wrong assumption and that students are NOT hiring school to be successful and to have fun?

You hire a restaurant, a place to eat, to fulfill your hunger pains. The food produced may or may not fulfill your need even though you've chosen to go there.

Stop on
a dime

Stop on a dime because we're assuming the wrong things and getting it wrong for kids. Educators know students are required by law to attend and that they are coming to us with the reasons to be in school as us. We aren't asking the right question because this isn't about us.

We really need to be asking why students would want to hire school?

ABOVE ALL

Above all students want two things out of school. The first is success and the other is to have fun. Give them both and they'll do pretty much anything. We need to realize that the needs of our students are different than ours.

SUCCESS

Students wants complete and utter success in everything they do. They want a victory in their academic, social, musical, artistic, and technological. They want success in every aspect of school. In other words they want a victory!

FUN

Girls just want to have fun...so says Cyndi Lauper and this is the other reason students would want to hire school. For spending so much time in one place they want to have fun.

RIGIDITY

Schools promise rigid learning doing as teacher says, following a strict pace or curriculum map, or causing learning to end when a bell rings.

YESTERYEAR

Learning is confined the organization and pace of the teacher so that teaching is easier for the teacher making learning harder for the student.

Educators know all students learn differently and at different paces, yet we, educators, force them into our comfort zone instead of getting into theirs.

WHY HIRE SCHOOL?

FROM THEIR POINT OF VIEW

Kids will hire school to help them succeed and have fun when we approach school from their point of view and not ours. Sure, it will be more work on us demanding more time, differentiation, enrichment, and overall work load, but it's worth it!

EXPLOSIVE RESULTS

Results of such efforts by teachers to help students succeed and have will result in the explosion of learning because students know we care to make every bit of learning relevant for them.
