Assessment Design

Measuring student learning in the PharmD Program

Current Assessment

  • NAPLEX/MPJE
  • Grades
  • GPA
  • Surveys

ACPE 2016 Standards require, "assessment as a means of improving the curriculum," and as a way to "provide additional insights to programs" (p. 6)

The problem is that current data (NAPLEX, MPJE, grades, and GPA) do not give adequate information to provide insight to the program, nor are these data sources adequate for curricular improvement.

Best Practice

  • Planned & Replicable
  • Cycle outcomes
  • Embedded
  • Authentic

Suggestions for CAPE Outcome Assessment

  • Align knowledge content in ExamSoft
  • Assess  Outcomes 2 - 4 with a rubric
  • Identify "anchor" assignments
  • Evaluate anchors with rubric

Should faculty evaluate in their courses, or should a blind evaluation take place outside of the courses?

There is the possibility of some combination of these possibilities. Faculty could evaluate in the course and a blind review could evaluate a sample of the assignments to determine "agreement."

Assess outcomes on a three year cycle.
