ORIGINS
- Officially began in 1890
- The first paid coach, Frank Crawford, arrived in 1893
- Nebraska's first out-of-state opponent, Iowa, was in 1891
GEORGE FLIPPIN
- He was the first African American player
- Missouri refused to play Nebraska

CORNHUSKERS
- According to Nebraska Athletics:
- They were first called cornhuskers in 1899
- Name was given by a sports editor

COACH WALTER C. BOOTH
- Coached from 1900-1905
- Compiled a 46-8-1 record
- 24-game winning streak
- 24-game streak was state record
- Until victory against Florida in 1955
COACH EWALD O. STIEHM
