Biomes of the Earth

Where we live and thrive

Biome.
A biome is a large-scale ecosystem.

Desert Biome

  • It has very little water
  • Plants and animals adapt to its barren climate
  • It has extremely high temeratures

Tropical Rain Forest

  • The climate is very wet
  • There is few plants on the floor
  • The thick canopy doesn't allow much sunlight to get through to the forest floor

Grasslands

  • All of the plants and animals adapted to the climate
  • They are sometimes known as the breadbasket of the world.
  • The grain is used for animal feed, bread, flour, and cereal
  • Animals such as prairie dogs, badgers, rabbits, gophers, mice, snankes and insects

Taiga

  • There are many evergreens, pines, firs, spruces, and hemlocks
  • Winter there is sometimes too cold for some animals and trees
  • A few deciduous trees thrive here, but only by lakes and streams

Tundra

  • It is a rolling plain that spreads across large areas
  • It is a region of dramatic changes in seasons
  • Larger plants can't survive in this region
  • Some animals such as birds, caribou, musk ox, and grizzly bears live here

Deciduous Forest

  • The leaves of the trees turn yellow and red before dropping to the ground
  • There are moderate temperatures and rainfall amounts
  • There are several layers of plants in this forest
