CREATION OF ANGELS

• Sacred Scripture/Sacred Tradition teach God's creation.
• This includes the material and spiritual reality.
• God's spiritual creations are the human soul and the angels.

ANGELS

• Purely spiritual/noncorporeal beings
• Posses intelligence and will
• Do not have physical bodies (immortal)

WHY ANGELS EXIST

• Exist to serve God from the moment of creation, cooperated in God's plan of salvation for his people
• They act as messangers
• Also assist people to follow God's will
• Example: Archangel Raphael guided Tobias in the Book of Tobit

ARCHANGEL GABRIEL

• Announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary
• That she would be the Mother of the Redeemer

PUBLIC MINISTRY

• Christ often spoke of angels during this time
• He referred to them as little children
• He said, "Their angels always behold the face of my Father who is heaven."
• He was consoled by an angel during his agony in the Garden of Grethsemane
• Angels announced the Resurrection to the holy women who came to visit Christ's tomb

CATHOLIC TRADITION

• Each person has a guardian angel who accompanies him or her at every moment
• Can protect from physical and moral harm
• A guardian angel can be a person's "spiritual best friend"
• Greatest desire is to help him or her get to Heaven

PRAYER

• "Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day (night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide."
• Amen.
