FOUR DISTINCT BREEDS

  • English angora
  • French angora
  • Giant angora
  • Satin angora

ANGORA FIBER

  • Orginated and first harvested in Turkey
  • Fluffy, Soft garment fiber, thin fiber
  • Known for silky texture
  • Warmer/lighter due to hollow core of fiber
  • Mistaken for angora goat (mohair)

DEVELOPMENT

  • The fur is plucked or sheared from the back and upper side of the rabbit
  • Pluck rabbits 3-4 times a year
  • The fiber can then be weaved to produce the material one needs
  • The angora fiber is able to produce 8 to 32 ounces of wool per year

FACT ABOUT THIS FIBER

  • Colors: white, tan, gray, brown, and black
  • 12-16 micrometers in diameters
  • Cost as much as $10.00-$16.00 per ounce
  • Can be marketed as raw or spun
  • Can be dyed

ANGORA IS USUALLY MIXED

  • Mixed with fibers like cashmere, silk, etc.
  • Usually no more then a 30% ratio
  • 100% angora garments are undesirable and have to fine of a texture

  • Easy to keep, inexpensive
  • Fast to breed in order for production of fiber
  • They are a no-kill livestock producer
  • They make good profit from fiber
