Context

  • Spoken by Jesus to a crowd of thousands of people
  • Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
  • The people were confused about who the parable was to
  • Jesus explained later that it was meant for everyone (that is why it is in the Bible)

Points of Reference

  • This is a one point of reference parable because there is only one character.

What does the parable represent?

  • The Rich Fool represents how a greedy person will not be willing to give everything to God
  • God wants us to be willing to sacrifice everything for him

Albert Barne's Notes on the BIble

  • The man in the parable was only thinking about himself, not anyone else
  • The rich man was not worried about his wealth but he still did not give to anyone else
  • As a Christian, we are required to be ready to give anything and everything to God.
