Federalism is the distribution of power in the government between the central authority and the constituent units. Checks and Balances is a system that is used to keep the government from getting too powerful in one branch. The power is separated into 3 branches: legislative, executive, judicial. Popular Sovereignty is the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives. Limited government is an outline where any more than minimal governmental intervention in personal liberties and the economy is not allowed by law. Judicial review is the doctrine under which legislative and executive actions are reviewed by the judiciary.
