Awá
The Awá people live in the wet rain forests of northern Ecuador.
There are currently 8,000 Awá people who still practice native traditions like hunting, cultivating corn, and raising animals for food.

Chachis/Cayapas
The Chachis, also known as the Cayapas, live by the Cayapas river. There are 5,000 Chachi people around today. They are known for selling baskets and crafts in the major cities.

Tsachilas/ Colorados
The Tsachilas, also known as the Colorados, live around Santa Domingo. 2,000 of them are still around today. The term "Colorados" was given to them because they painted themselves red. They thought this could prevent smallpox.

Quichua
The Quichua are the most numerous indigenous group in Ecuador. 1,500,000 Quichua still practice traditions today such as wearing bright clothing and sacrificing pigs.
