  • A period of time where your body develops
  • Begins at 12 for boys and 11 for girls
  • You become able to reproduce after this period
  • You will experience many changes during this time
  • Such as hair growth, height and sweatiness

MALE

  • Testosterone
  • Broadening of shoulders
  • Deepening of voice
  • Formulation of sperm

FEMALE

  • Estrogen
  • Breast size increases
  • Widened hips
  • Eggs formulate
  • Period starts and continues monthly

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

  • Bathe yourself
  • Examine your reproductive organs for cancer
  • Have regular medical checkups
  • Guys: Wear protective gears
  • girls: wear sanitary products during your period

CHANGE AT YOUR OWN RATE

  • Grow and mature at your own rate
  • Learn to make responsible decisions
  • Make sure to do development tasks

PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH

LESSON 4

PREGNANCY

  • Lasts 9 months
  • During this time the babies embryo develops
  • Pregnant people become very hormonal
  • smoking, drinking and drug use can harm the embryo
  • When an egg is fertilized, pregnancy occurs

LABOR AND BIRTH

  • Labor-a series of stages that result in the birth of a child
  • This is very painful and can take many hours
  • Once baby is born, umbilical cord is cut

TEEN PREGNANCY

  • Places both parents and babies at risk
  • Increased chance of poverty
  • Teen parents may have to give up their education
  • To avoid a teen pregnancy:
  • Practice abstinence or use a form of birth control

AGING HEALTHILY

  • You will face new challenges at every age
  • In adolecence, your body goes through many changes
  • From 18-30 you will establish your life away from family
  • From 30-45 you may get married and have kids
  • From 45-70 you will want to try new things or do something exciting

TIPS FOR HEALTHY AGING

  • Choose healthy foods
  • Do physical activity regularly
  • Protect your skin and body from harmful elements
  • Have deep conversations
  • Stay informed on current events

CARE FOR OLDER FAMILY MEMBERS

  • Older relatives may need extra help
  • as family, you play an important role in their lives
  • It is important to stay connected and provide assistance
  • They may need a caregiver or to stay in a retirement home.
  • They may have medical problems such as Alzheimer's or back problems
