World War 2

Germany vs. Soviet Union

Germany’s main goals during the Operation of Barbarossa were all revolving around the Soviet Union. Hitler saw the Soviet’s economy weakening and found an opportunity in this. The ultimate goal was to completely take over and capture major cities. Many soldiers were captured, and lots of German land advances were made. Germany wanted to take down the Soviet Union as they saw them as a neighboring threat.

There were a few advantages that the Russians had over the Germans at Stalingrad. First off, Germany did not know that the Soviet Union had recently allied the United States. This was a huge help to the Soviets, as the United States could provide more men, ammunition, and weaponry. Another advantage that the Russians held was their familiarity with harsh winters. The Germans were not equipped for the winters and therefore could not capture Moscow. The Soviet Union, however, had warm boots and clothes manufactured by their new ally, the United States.

Industrial Capacity was key to Allied victories in the Pacific and Europe mainly because of Germany’s economy. Germany was counting on being able to win their battles very quickly, reserving supplies and men. With new allies on the other side however, the battles took longer. For Germany, this meant losing a lot more money than they had originally planned to. Industrial Capacity was increased with more allies, so the Pacific Region and Europe were at an advantage over Germany. Industrial Capacity also helped the Soviets with their first large scale victory at Stalingrad.

Allies

The goal of opening up a front in Normandy was to overwhelm the German forces, and force the Germany's unconditional surrender. The soviets took over the German Parliament, and two weeks earlier, Hitler had committed suicide in his bunker.

The Japanese hoped to knock out the United States naval capacity through the bombing of pearl harbor. This would help their conquest of Southwest Asia, and create a perimeter so that no allied powers could take over Japanese rule.

United States decide to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Island hopping was a strategy that the United States adopted to take control of Japanese islands so that they could make more direct air assaults on Japan. The united states dropped the bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki to persuade emperor hirohito to surrender unconditionally to the soviets and the united states.

The Holocaust

Hitler's "Final Solution" was the Nazi's plan to completely get rid of all Jewish people throughout Europe. Hitler's plan was gradually implemented through different stages. At first, the state promoted racism, which in turn created prejudice towards Jews and anti-Jewish legislation. THis led to the "Night of Broken Glass" which attempted to remove all Jews from Germany.

Concentration camps were created by Hitler. These camps were brutal. There was little food and horrible conditions including the cold, illnesses, etc... Many people were slaughtered before they were even placed in the camps. The goal of the camps were to irradiate everyone that was not a typical German, and everyone who had an unusual issue.

Resistance movements during World War II occurred in every occupied country by a variety of means, ranging from non-cooperation, disinformation and propaganda, to hiding crashed pilots and even to outright warfare and the recapturing of towns. In many countries, resistance movements were sometimes also referred to as "The Underground".
