CHEMICAL WEATHERING

OXADATION
The chemical weathering iron combines with air and causes rock to rust and breakdown. This rock is red because of rust.

CARBON DIOXIDE
Another gas found causes a chemical reaction which causes the rock to breakdown. The rock is wearing away.

LIVING ORGANISMS
As a seed sprouts on the surface of a rock, the roots find their way into preexisting cracks in a rock. As the roots grow, they produce weak acids, which slowly dissolve the rock near the roots.

ACID RAIN

Gases like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides get dissolved in the rain water, making the water very acidic. This is the effect of acid rain over many years.
