HOMESTEAD STRIKE
- Started in 1892
CAUSES
- It started when carnegie went on a vacation
- He allowed frick to do what he wanted in homestead
- Frick cut wages and tried to destroy the union by refusing to talk to them
- He locked 1100 people in the union out and layed people off
- 3000 workers voted to strike
STRIKES
- It started on coal mines in tennesee and went to homestead
- Frick hired the pinkerton detective private army to defend steel mills
- The private army came by river and was caught by workers
- They shot at eachother killing and wounding many
- They defeated the private army but ran out of resources and went back to work
EFFECTS
- Strike leaders were black listed and fired
- 160 were convicted of murder and small crimes
- Carnegie returned from vacation in england to see what happened at homestead
