The Natives probably viewed it as a beautiful peace of nature. The first Europeans to see them probably felt impressed to see something so beautiful as if they discovered something new. If I had to choose I would choose the Grand Canyon because it seem like such a beautiful place to sit on the edge chill, and enjoy the view.
