RISE TO POWER

SOVIET UNION

• Transform Soviet Union into an industrial power
• Government took control of farms. Millions disobeyed and died. Led to famine
• Stalin ruled by terror and eliminated any who apposed him
• Made citizens spy on each other. Great Purge to eliminate enimies
• Controlled Soviet Media

WORLD WAR II

• Nonaggression pact with Hitler in 1939
• Hitler broke pact and invaded Soviet Union
• Soviet Union defeated Germans in Battle of Stalingrad
• Worked with Allies but still had the vision of post-war Soviet Empire

LATE LIFE

• Reigned terror even when old
• Exploded an atomic bomb
• Gave permission for Kim Il Sung to invade U.S.
• Died after suffering a stroke on March 5th 1953 age 75
• Buried near Kremlin walls as part of de-stalinization process
