THREE TYPES OF CLOUDS

  • Stratus
  • Cumulus
  • Cirrus

STRATUS CLOUDS

  • Found at low altitudes
  • Associated with fair weather, rain, or snow
  • Smooth, even sheets
  • Strato- means low elevation

CUMULUS CLOUDS

  • Masses of puffy, white clouds
  • Often have flat bases
  • Sometimes tower to great heights
  • Associated with fair weather or thunderstorms

CIRRUS CLOUDS

  • Appear fibrous or curly
  • High, thin, white, feathery clouds
  • Made of ice crystals
  • Associated with fair weather
  • Can indicate approaching storms

Precipitation
This occurs when water droplets in clouds become heavy and large enough to fall to Earth.
