Although Christ and the Church are one, it is possible to talk about the Church and Christ using the language of personal relationship to both distinguish the two and reveal their unity.

What is incredible about the union is that Christ gave himself up for his bride, the Church, in order to make her holy and to join her with himself in an everlasting covenant!
The unity of Christ, the bridegroom, and the Church, his bride, reveals to us something of the intimate relationship God intends for a husband and wife
Thus, Christian Marriage becomes an effective sign or sacrament of the covenant of Christ and the Church, and the faithfulness of the spouses to one another gives witness to God’s faithful love
