• What are the dates of the time periods?
• How are the time periods different?
• Who is important in each period?
• Are the dates exact or approximate?

MEDIEVAL

• 500 - 1400 AD
• Gregorian Chant exists within the church
• Gregorian chant forms the foundation for our current musical system
• At first the music is all in UNISON
• Music develops that has more than one melody (called polyphony)
